Stage Actor

After childhood acting, I didn't get back on to the stage until a business presentation put me in front of several hundred people, the excitement of which reignited the flame. Ten years of musical theatre gave me the opportunity to play a number of character roles on stage, which I then decided was where I would concentrate my efforts. Being centre stage has never been a problem for me; I relish the controlled fear of having the audience in your hands, it prompted the comment from fellow thespians: “If someone switches a light on, Wilko will step into it”! I have always been of the opinion that the most important part of a performance is characterisation, without mastering the character one cannot be convincing to the audience. To that end in every new role, I put all my efforts into creating the character before and whilst learning my lines. My successes on stage, I’m sure, are down to this approach, along with some of the excellent coaching and direction I have benefited from along the way.
